Remote Access to E-Resources

All university-subscribed electronic resources (e-databases, e-books, e-journals) are accessible remotely by Open University students and staff from any personal computer or off-campus network. There are two primary authentication methods available.

Via Shibboleth Facility

Single Sign-On (SSO) institutional access using your OUSL university network credentials.

Eligible Groups

Available for all Open University staff and registered students.

Procedure
  1. Use your OUSL domain account username and password (provided by the University IT division for internet facility).
  2. Navigate to the resource page (E-Databases or E-Journals) where your required material is hosted.
  3. Click on the publisher database (e.g., Springer, Emerald, JSTOR, Oxford University Press).
  4. On the publisher’s login prompt, select "Institutional Login / Shibboleth". If needed, search for the institution "Open University of Sri Lanka".
  5. Enter your OUSL domain username and password to gain full-text article access.

Staff & Postgraduates Method 02

Via Virtual Private Network (VPN)

Secure campus web proxy configuration for staff and postgraduate researchers.

Eligible Groups
  • Academic staff and Administrative staff of the OUSL
  • Postgraduate students who have obtained library membership
Procedure
  1. Send an email to the Library (inquiries-lib@ou.ac.lk) requesting a VPN username and password.
  2. Once the Library provisions your VPN credentials, configure your internet browser following the step-by-step setup guide.
  3. Browse the web through the OUSL proxy with automatic institutional recognition across all subscribed databases.
