Matara Regional Center Library is one of the unique Regional Center Libraries in the library system of the Open University of Sri Lanka. It is conveniently located in Matara - Nupe within the Southern Province Matara District. The MRC Library Cluster includes Ambalantota, Hambantota, Galle, Ambalangoda, Kalutara, Gampaha, and Ratnapura.
The MRC library aims to offer a variety of services to cater to the information requirements of its users effectively. With a focus on improvement since its establishment, the Matara Regional Center Library has consistently broadened its services and amenities to create a well-equipped setting. We are dedicated to fulfilling the needs of our library visitors and are focused on supporting their academic and personal development.

Library Facilities

The MRC Library offers a range of facilities, including silent reading areas, group study spaces, and reserved sections for academic staff, accommodating up to 75 users. With free Wi-Fi for students and staff, internet-enabled computers, and a Virtual Resource Centre with audio-visual facilities for up to 10 users, the library ensures a supportive environment for individual and collaborative learning.

The MRC Library offers a variety of learning spaces designed to cater to your reading and study preferences:
- Silent and Individual Reading Areas: Located on the first floor, these areas provide a quiet environment for focused study and reading.
- Capacity: The Matara Regional Center Library can accommodate up to 75 readers at a time.
Silent and Individual Reading Area
Located on the first floor of the MRC Library, the silent and individual reading area provides a peaceful environment for focused study and reading. This space is designed to accommodate those seeking a quiet atmosphere, allowing you to concentrate on your work without distractions.
Group Studying Area
The group studying area is located on the second floor of the MRC Library. This space is designed to facilitate collaborative learning and discussion among students. Equipped with comfortable seating and ample table space, it provides an ideal environment for group projects, study sessions, and interactive learning.
Reserved Reading Spaces for Academic Staff
To support the academic community, dedicated reading spaces are reserved on the first floor of the MRC Library specifically for academic staff. These spaces are designed to meet the reading and research needs of faculty members, providing a quiet and conducive environment for focused work.
| Virtual Resource Centre & Audio/Video Facility
The Matara Library offers a Virtual Resource Centre and dedicated Audio-Visual Facilities, providing users with access to multimedia educational content.
- Computer Facilities: The library is equipped with computers for your use.
- Capacity: Up to 10 people can utilize the facilities at once, ensuring a comfortable and collaborative environment for learning and research.
| Free WiFi Facility
The MRC Library provides a free Wi-Fi facility to help you effectively meet your study and information needs.
- For Students: To access the Wi-Fi, you can fill out the application form available at the library. Please note that the Wi-Fi access is limited to one device of your choice.
- For Staff: Staff members can access the Wi-Fi facility on two devices.
