Mr. Harsha Balasooriya, also known as Mr. A.H.K. Balasooriya, is currently serving as the Acting Librarian
at the Library Division of The Open University of Sri Lanka. With extensive expertise in information
technology and library sciences, he has built a strong career in integrating technology into library
systems, focusing on areas such as library automation and digital libraries.
Mr. Balasooriya holds a Master’s degree in Information Studies from Leeds Beckett University
(UK), which he completed in 2009. His academic journey also includes a Postgraduate Diploma in
Information Technology from the University of Kelaniya (2007) and a Bachelor’s degree from the University of
Peradeniya, where he studied at both the Faculty of Agriculture and the Postgraduate Institute of
Agriculture.
Before his current role, Mr. Balasooriya worked as a Computer Programmer and System Analyst in the
IT Division of The Open University of Sri Lanka. He has contributed significantly to various
IT-related initiatives and has also held a Senior Consultant position at the university’s IT
Division. His contributions in the field of library technology have been invaluable, particularly in
the context of postgraduate education.
